Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Sexually Abused Children with Co-Occuring Psychological Problems.

Objective: The present study is designed to measure the effectiveness of trauma focused cognitive behavior therapy to reduce emotional and behavioral problems and PTSD symptoms in children with sexual abuse. Study Design: Experimental research design, pre-and post-treatment, Non-probability Purposive sampling was used in this study to examine the outcome of TF-CBT among children with history of sexual abuse. Place and Duration of Study: Sample was taken from Psychiatry Departments of different hospitals in Lahore. Duration of the study was 3 months. Material and Methods: Ten male and female children of age 11 to 16 years participated in the study who have the history of sexual abuse. Total Ten sessions, thrice a week for 45 minutes per session were conducted, with each participant. Results: Results were significant at p<0.001 for the decrease in severity of PTSD symptoms after intervention. The findings revealed the effectiveness of TF-CBT for children with sexual abuse. Conclusion: The results of this study reveal that trauma focused cognitive behavior therapy is very effective treatment in reducing symptoms of children who had been sexually abused as it gives long term improvements.
