Comparison of Efficacy of Oral Ondansetron VS Oral Domperidone in Reducing Vomiting in Children with Acute Diarrhea.

Objective: To compare the efficacy of oral ondansetron with oral domperidone in reducing vomiting in children with acute diarrhea. Study Design: Randomized controlled trial Place and Duration: Children emergency ward of Khyber Teaching Hospital from June to December 2015 Materials and methods: Non-probability consecutive sampling technique, and using inclusion criteria, 190 patients were enrolled, 95 in group A (ondansetron) and 95 in group B (domperidone). Results: Mean ages were 6 +- 2.27 years in Group A, and 7 +- 3.12 years in Group B. In Group A 52 (55%) patients were male, 43 (45%) patients were female. In Group B 54 (57%) patients were male, while 41 (43%) patients were female. Efficacy based on vomiting showed ondansetron to be effective in 64 (67%) patients. Domperidone was effective in 45 (47%) patients. Conclusion: Oral ondansetron is more efficacious than oral domperidone in reducing vomiting in children with acute diarrhea.
