Parent-child Bonding and Psychological Well-being, Assessment of Secondary School Students.

Objective: To understand the impact of parent child bonding on psychological well-being of adolescents. Study Design: It was descriptive correlational study. Place and Duration of Study: Data was collected from four different cities: Peshawar, Muzafarabad, Bagh, and Rawalpindi. Study was conducted 2015 Material and Methods: The sample consisted of two hundred participants (N=200), 100 boys and 100 girls. Their age range was 14 to 17 years. To measure parent-child bonding and psychological well-being, "Parental Bonding instrument" (PBI) and "Psychological Well-being Scale" (RPWS) were used respectively. Results: Findings indicate that there is significant positive correlation (p=.153*, p<.05) between parent child bonding and psychological well-being of adolescents. The value of standardized coefficient beta indicates that one degree change in parental bonding will cause 15% increase in wellbeing of child. Conclusion: It was found that an adolescent who received parental support and involvement showed higher psychological well-being. On basis of these findings we need to develop awareness especially among parents and must develop programs to enhance parent child bonding.
