Audit of Measles Cases in Children Admitted to a Tertiary Care Hospital during Year 2018.

Objective: To evaluate clinical presentation, vaccination status and outcome in measles infection. Study Design: Descriptive cross sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Pediatrics Department Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Rawalpindi, January 2018 to December 2018. Material and Methods: Data regarding demographic profile, clinical presentation, complications and outcome of measles patients was collected and analyzed using SPSS 22. Results: Out of 352 cases of measles evaluated in this study, 199 (56.3%) were male and 152 (43.5%) female with mean age of 26.08 months. 54.5% children were less than one year old. 64.67% were not fully vaccinated and 65% had contact with measles patient. 46% children had pneumonia, 20.17% gastroenteritis and 14% otitis media. 96.5% cases recovered completely while 11 died of measles complications. Conclusions: The most common complications of measles are pneumonia and diarrhea with dehydration. Mortality is significantly associated with infancy, un-vaccination, pneumonia and encephalitis.
