Importance of Aspartate Aminotransferase to Platelet Ratio Index as a Predictor of Chronic Hepatitis C with and without Liver Cirrhosis.
Pak J Med Health Sci Jan ;14(2):475-7.

Objective / Aim: To detect the aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index (APRI) as a predictor of chronic hepatitis C infection with or without liver cirrhosis. Study Design: Prospective study Place and Duration of study: Department of Gastroenterology, Bolan Medical Complex Hospital Quetta from 1st October 2018 to 31stMarch 2019. Methodology: Eighty patients of chronic hepatitis C were divided into groups. First group of 41 patients having cirrhosis and second group consisted of 39 patients without cirrhosis. The ages of these patients ware ranged between 34-42 years with both genders. The clinical history and examination were done while blood and liver biopsy samples were taken from all the patients and sent to the pathology department for the diagnosis of chronic hepatitis C infection and liver cirrhosis. Results: The mean age was 38.2 +- 4.2 years and male to female ratio was 1.3:1. The APRI was significantly higher in liver cirrhosis than the patients without cirrhosis that is 2.19 +- 0.60 and 0.80 +- 0.28 respectively. Conclusion: Application APRI is a good and accurate predictor value of chronic hepatitis C with and without liver cirrhosis that would be essential to reduce the requirement of liver biopsy among chronic hepatitis C patients.
