Health related quality of life in patients with grade III knee osteoarthritis.

Objective: To evaluate the quality of life (QOL) among patients with grade III knee osteoarthritis (OA) and to assess the possible influencing factors on them in Bahawalpur, Pakistan. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study and participants of age 45-80 years were included. Non probability convenient sampling technique was used. Sample size of 210. Patients with grade III knee OA according to Kellgren and Lawrence grading scale were included. We used Short form F-36 questionnaire. Results: Out of 210 patients, 88(41.9%0) were male and 122(58.1%) female. Mean age was 62.4+16.6 years. We found that 31(14.76%) patients had health change of 75%. The Role limitations due to physical and emotional problems were more effected than the other six domains of SF-36. Conclusion: Role limitations due to physical health, emotional and general health were much more effected due to knee OA, than all other domains. More than half had significant effects on their health change leading to severely affected quality of life. Their role limitation due to effected physical health was prominent factor.
