J Pak Inst Med Sci Jan ;13(1):646-51.

Hemorrhoidal disease is the most common disease of mankind. At least 50% of people over the age of 50 years have some discomfort from these. As the diagnosis of hemorrhoids is purely clinical, a proper local physical examination of ano-rectal region is mandatory. A total of 110 patients were studied in the department of surgery at FGSH, Islamabad and out of these 105 were male and only 5 were female. Painless fresh bleeding per rectum and/or prolapse were common presenting complaints and straining at stool and constipation were found to be the most important etiological factors.
