Role of high resolution Computed Tomography in diffuse lung disease: comparison with chest X-Ray, PA view.
J Pak Inst Med Sci Jan ;14(2):798-801.

High Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) was performed in 48 patients with strong clinical suspicion of diffuse lung disease having abnormal x-ray chest. The purpose of this study was to define the role of HRCT in diagnosing diffuse lung disease and to determine the percentage of various lung diseases in our department. HRCT showed that 38 patients (79%) had diffuse lung disease, whereas the remaining 10 patients (21 %)were free of disease. Male to female ratio was 1: 1.52. It was concluded that HRCT is a powerful and reliable diagnostic tool in diffuse lung disease. It can be used to diagnose the disease before any abnormal finding is detected on chest x-ray and also before any surgical intervention or biopsy. C.T is well established in the diagnosis of neoplastic and inflammatory lesions as well.
