Professional Med J Jan ;8(4):465-8.

Half-life of alprazolam therapy was evaluated in five, normal male and female subjects and 15 male and female renal insufficient patients. For this purpose, tab. Alprazolam in a dose of 0.25 mg, administered orally, twice a day for a period of 21 days. Half-life of drug was assessed two times during the study period, once at day 07 and second at day 21. Among control group half-life variation was negligible on day 7 and 21. Renal group did not show significant changes in half-life. But when the mean value of half-life was compared with control group on day 7 and 21, it showed highly significant changes, indicating that the usual dosage of alprazolam may have to be altered to properly individualize therapy for patients with renal impairment.
