Ectopic pregnancy; changing trend in incidence & clinical presentation.

A prospective study on the changing trends in incidence and clinical presentation of ectopic pregnancy was conducted in Gynae Unit I of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department of Allied Hospital (PMC) Faisalabad from 01.01.2000 to 31.12.2000. Thirty patients with suspected ectopic pregnancy were included; twenty patients were diagnosed as ectopic pregnancy giving an incidence of 5.1 per 1000 birth. Total No of deliveries during this period was 3880. OBJECTIVES ` To evaluate changing trend towards presentation and incidence of ectopic pregnancy`. To high light the fact that our patients still attend late resulting in high morbidity. The predisposing symptoms, factors, signs and various diagnostic tests were evaluated. All patients underwent laparotomy but conservative surgical procedures were only possible in two cases. It is concluded from this study that early diagnosis by careful clinical evaluation and combination of diagnostic modalities provides an invaluable aid.
