Sclerotherapy: An acceptable mode of treatment in primary hydrocele.

A study on 124 male conducted at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Services Hospital Lahore from June 1998 to December 1999 is presented to see the effect of sclerotherapy in Primary Hydrocele with tetracycline. 60% patients having fluid less than 100 cc were injected 2 cc of sclerosing agent. 26% had more than 100 cc and less than 200 cc in which 3 cc and patients with more than 200 cc of fluid were injected with 5 cc of Tetracycline solution. Over all success rate was 88%. 14% showed local infection, 11% severe pain and 2% post sclerotherapy haematoma formation. All the cases were dealt at outdoor basis. It was concluded that sclerotherapy with Tetracycline in primary hydrocele in our set-up is safe and cost effective.
