SUMO vs Viruses - What`s the connection?.
Infect Dis J Jan ;13(4):105.

Some proteins are synthesized inactive and need to be posttranslationally modified to become active. These various types of modifications are phosphorylation (addition of PO4), acetylation (CH3CO), methylation (CH3), and ubiquitination (Ub). One type of modification that has been receiving a lot of attention lately is the addition of a 97 AA peptide, called SUMO (for small ubiquitin-like modifier), to a number of proteins. This is a review article.
