Severe Chronic Neutropenia (SCN) results either from intrinsic disorders of hemopoietic precursor cells or due to extrinsic factors affecting myeloid cell proliferation and deployment. The former comprises of severe congenital neutropenia, cyclic neutropaenia, myelokathexis, glycogen storage disease type 1b, hyperimmune IgM syndrome, etc. The latter include infection-related (viral, bacterial, protozoal and fungal, drug-induced and immune neutropaenias, as well as neutropaenias associated with large granular lymphocytosis and hypersplenism.
