Two years experience of Esophageal Atresia with Tracheoesophageal Fistula in a tertiary care centre.

Object: To access the outcome and survival of patients of Esophageal Atresia (EA) with Tracheo esophageal fistula (TOF). There final outcome, survival and presence of associated malformations have been discussed. Design: Hospital based descriptive study. Place and Duration of Study: This study was conducted in children`s Hospital Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Islamabad from January 2003 to January 2005. Subject and Method: Case record of patients having esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula was analyzed to look for age and weight at time of presentation associated congenital malformations along with the final outcome. Conclusion: Esophageal atresia with TOF remains a common pediatric surgical problem in this unit as patients are being referred from far flung areas specially northern areas of the country. There successful management is dependent on early presentation, absence of associated malformations and successful surgical correction followed by proper care in neonatal intensive care unit following surgery.
