Ann Pak Inst Med Sci Jan ;1(3):140-1.

Objective: To assess the value of core-through optical urethrotomy in posttraumatic blind posterior urethral stricture. Place and Duration of Study: The study was conducted in the Department of Urology Rawalpindi General Hospital Rawalpindi from 1995-2000. Methods: Sixty adult male patients with traumatic blind posterior urethral strictures were included in the study. All the patients were evaluated by retrograde and antegrade urethrogram. Core through optical internal urethrotomy was performed under spinal /general anesthesia using cold knife urethrotome. Results: In 58 (99%) out of 60 patients, the procedure was successful. There was no urinary extravasation, rectal injury or significant urethral bleeding. Conclusion: Endoscopic treatment in the form of core-through optical internal urethrotomy is the initial procedure of choice in all patients with blind posttraumatic posterior urethral strictures, because of its safety, high success rate and very low morbidity.
