Seromarkers of Hepatitis B & C viruses observed in symptomatic cases of teaching hospital of IIMC (Railway Hospital) Rawalpindi.

At the Teaching Hospital of Islamic International Medical College (Railway Hospital, Rawalpindi) a retrospective study extending over a period of one year & six months (2.10.2000-19.4.2002) was conducted to evaluate the frequency of hepatitis B& C in symptomatic cases admitted in the hospital. 264 cases were screened for HBsAg & 244 cases were evaluated for Anti HCV Antibodies with the help of rapid immunochromatographic method. The Hepatitis C was found to be the more common (28.6%) as compared to B Hepatitis (9.8%). Hepatitis C&B viruses both are prevalent in males (HCV-- 29.2%, HBV ---11.6%). Hepatitis viruses being the major public health problems world wide, attention should be paid towards their prevention which are prevalent in Pakistan as well.
