PakMediNet Discussion Forum : Medical Research in Pakistan : Wake up for God Sake
I want to bring to attention of all the health care proffesionals through this site about the alarmingly high prevalance of Hepatitis C in Pakistan. do we know how why has it spread in our society. We as a nation are more Bankrupt morally and ethically than what we are economically. Quaks are running hige practices never have known anything about sterilization, never believed in using disposable syringes ( A study conducted by medical students in a Goth near Karachi showed that the busiest practicioner was the Former tailor of the Goth who uses the syringe for 20-30 patients or till it becomes so blunt that it wouldnot peneterate the skin.
Then on the Forefront are our dentist brother most of them are non-believers in true sterilization, one factor is the training, secondly they donot see the complications of the Damage they have incurred so they are not too concerned and when somebody inquires abt the sterility of instruments and stuff they usually dismiss them with an arrogance. then comes the role of barbers using Non-disposable blades. I believe that all donated blood in this country is screened for viruses but it might just be a misunderstanding of Mine.
The health authorities donot give a Damn about that , i donot know what kind of hurricane they need to wake them up. We have I am sure if u ask mullahs and the army Generals, beaurocrats& Politicians they will say that this is "Allah will" and mullahs will add one cause the increase of Illicit relationship in the Society 'cos mullah see only sex as the incriminating cause (Probably they themselves are thinking of it all the time).
WE HAVE TO REALISE THAT HEPATITIS C IS A KILLER DISEASE. WE SHOULD ALL JOIN HANDS IN PREVENTING ITS SPREAD, TREATMENT OF THIS DISEASE BY DOING WHATEVER WE CAN. WE SHOULD ALL REVIEW OUR PRACTICES AND SEE IS THER SOMETHING THAT WE CAN IMPROVE. AS A DOCTOR IT IS THE HEIGHT OF PROFESSIONAL MISCONDUCT IF U INFECT A HEALTHY INNOCENT PATIENT WHO HAD COME TO U FOR A SIMPLE TREATMENT. PLS WRITE BACK ON THIS THREAD AND CONTRIBUTE WHAT CAN WE DO.

I know no body will write up to that 'cos in this ethically and morally depleted environment we have our eyes firmly shut and conscience sleeping. nothing is going to change. The kind of apathic environment in medical colleges and schools which we are providing to our children is more conducive to becomes Ghunda Bandmash rather than ethically Strong doctors.
God Bless all of you.

I think this isnt write that everybody here is morally corrupt and unable to face to realities, the reason is probably lack of time and carelessness.
Hepatitis B or C is indeed increasing in our society at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, almost none of the NGOs or Govt agencies are thinking about this serious problem.
One good thing is the formation of "National Program for the control of Hepatitis B" by the Govt. Lets see what is the output of this project.

Dr Osama would u call infecting a healthy 26 year old man with hep C (who goes for a minor dental procedure) who is the lone breadwinner for his family, a mere act of carelessness?.
I would call that a cold blooded Murder.

I only know that "one should not work as physician if he is doing more harm than good" even in the fifth world societies like Pakistan.
"Lack of time and carelessness" would these ppl take the same sterilization measures if they have to operate on their own brother and son. Definitely NOT.
